The biggest sporting event on the planet attracted the world’s glances to Brazil in 2016. Rio de Janeiro, the wonderful city, hosted the Rio 2016 Olympic Games bringing the excitement of the sport, the passion of fans and the fervency of competitiveness in a great and global reach event.
Hundreds of employees were involved in the organization many months before the games began. Some of them took care of the infrastructure, others coordinated and trained volunteers, some in the communication area and many other departments of the Organizing Committee contributed to the success of the event.
Considering the great work of the committee, we must highlight a very important area of this team: the Accommodation department. With so many athletes, sponsors and important personalities coming from everywhere to Rio, how to organize lodging for everyone and properly distribute hotel rooms? This is where the story of FileMaker begins with the Olympics.
Early in 2013, there was a need for a system for managing the accommodation of the Olympic Games. The Rio 2016 technical team found FileMaker as an option to meet this need, but did not have the necessary development expertise. After searching for experts in FileMaker, the Rio 2016 team found HiMaker, who decided to enter the game and accept the challenge.
After understanding all the flow of the accommodation organization with the team of Rio 2016, HiMaker developed a proof of concept, which was evaluated by the heads of accommodation and technical staff. Once approved, the proof of concept became the foundation for the evolution of the system named AcoMaker.
AcoMaker has been increasingly improved and has become a huge solution. Composed of more than 10 integrated modules, the solution was designed to meet the great demand of reports of the Accommodations team. In total, more than 20 reports have been developed, from the simplest to complex reports generated with crossed data from multiple modules.
In addition to storing the various hotel information with their respective characteristics, ratings, number of rooms per type and more, AcoMaker allowed the staff to correctly distribute the numbers of athletes, sponsors and other participants among the hundreds of rooms available.
One of the great highlights of AcoMaker is the possibility to use it in several languages. HiMaker developed a translation module that worked as a dictionary where it was possible to add the translation of labels, buttons and warnings to the desired language.
“We feel like winners because we can contribute to such a great event as the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It was a great opportunity to prove FileMaker’s versatility and see the satisfactory results of the competent work of the HiMaker team,” said Henrique Bilbao, CEO of HiMaker.
